It is nothing short of terrible that many people on this Earth believe cannabis to be a bad thing. In reality, it is a gift that should be embraced and used to its fullest potential, which would create amazing benefits for every human.

The least important tragedy, but a tragedy nonetheless, is what recreational cannabis smokers have to endure. Not only is there a stigma, but those who are caught have to spend thousands for a lawyer, and then go through months of “rehabilitation”, which may be education and random drug testing. This is not how we should treat our fellow humans for using the most beneficial plant in the world!

It is an ironic fact that cannabis is illegal because it is said to be “dangerous”, but taken in the proper quantities, it is the complete opposite. Studies show that people who smoke moderate amounts of cannabis live longer (two years longer!) and are protected from neurological and cardiovascular diseases, to some extent. Therefore, the government making cannabis illegal is taking away YOUR right to life!

Medicinal cannabis is one of the biggest arguments for legalizing the plant. Unfortunately, so far the focus has been on smoked cannabis, which is actually an inefficient method of using the plant as medicine.

The best way to use cannabis medicinally is to extract the resins and concentrate them, forming a substance known as hemp oil. An ideal and easy extraction process was developed by a man named Rick Simpson, who also used his product on hundreds of people with amazing success, even curing many cases of terminal cancer.

At the very least, if hemp was fully used industrially, then we would get some benefit from it. However, the ignorant United States government lumps hemp together with female cannabis buds, and thus prevents us from utilizing it. This is very terrible, considering hemp is a perfect biofuel, staple food, and replacement for tree-based and petroleum-based products.

Knowing how beneficial and safe hemp is, it is absolutely ridiculous that it is illegal. When I see police officers arresting someone for cannabis, or talking negatively about it, it truly makes me angry, knowing that this ignorance promotes the unimaginable pain of millions of people. This is not a matter of, “We want to smoke cannabis.” This is a matter of pleasure and pain, life and death, justice and destruction.

If you want to do something to help change the laws, join NORML or, most importantly, promote the use of hemp oil for medicine. While this will lead to the legalization of cannabis for recreation, medicine, and industry, the most important thing is that it will alleviate the horrendous pain of other human beings.
