Is a Body Detox Necessary?

by Candi B. Mihajlov

If there were a generation to give, en masse and complimentary, decades-long supplies of body detox, it would be those of us who were in between the Generation X-ers and these new Millennial children. The Millenials were born during the era of abstinence education and anti drug commercials that involved tweeners deflating into flattened puddles in the middle of their living rooms. They grew up without having to fight over whether we were descended from apes and have no idea what we mean when we talk about cigars or blue dresses.

At this point, you might as well give it a try, right? We couldn’t agree more. On the other hand if you’re looking for a definitive guide that tells you what detox to use, where to go to find them, or if you’re looking for tips on how to recognize whether any specific body detoxification program is right for you, this particular article is bound to be a disappointment. I honestly wish I knew more about it, or had taken the time in Health class to figure out a way to concoct a great body detox on my own. I was too busy making pipes out of apples.

Failure to do so will rob those Millenials of their parents. And by “their parents,” my friends, I mean us. Our last-ditch efforts to hold onto the ripple-effects of the sixties and seventies (since we were born in the seventies and eighties) is resulting in higher obesity rates and dramatic increases in health problems like heart disease, lung conditions, hypertension, and diabetes. And the last time I checked, none of us were getting any younger.

So now that you know that we understand you (or at least we’d like to think we do,) consider this:

So before you go any further with this– before you start ordering your lifetime supply of body detox from this or any other site, please consider: your willingness to better yourself and your desire to live a happier, cleaner, and longer life may well be in the way of the development of a new one. So before you make the choice to improve your own life, ask yourself: is your life really worth prolonging?

Avoid A Data Disaster On The Road: 5 Tips

by Adrian Alexa

Information is what powers business trips. It’s one of your most precious assets and you should take every step to keep it safe.

Take it from someone who has left his office without synchronsing his laptop and PC, who has wiped out days worth of work because he neglected to install a backup system and who even has lost clients because he ignored the importance of good, reliable information.

Don’t make the same mistakes I have. Here’s what a career on the road has taught me about computer data:

5 Tips for Travels Start every trip with a synch

Making sure your PDA and PC are both up-to-date is pretty easy. Generally, you just slip the handheld into its cradle and the computer does the rest. Synchronising one PC with another isn’t as straightforward. I’ve tested every conceivable tool, including the one that came with my computer operating system, and they can be tricky. But it’s definitely worth learning, because once you leave the office, I guarantee you’ll be glad you updated your laptop.

Don’t trust your computer

Memory sticks that plug into your laptop are essential to the integrity of your data. And with some units now carrying up to 5 gigabytes of data (which equates to an awful lot of documents), you can fit all your essential files onto one small stick. Andrew Steele, a media consultant to charities and non-profits in Great Britain, routinely does a double backup. It recently saved his trip. “I had a laptop power supply fail,” Steele recalls. “So even when the battery was finally exhausted, I could carry on without embarrassment on borrowed computers.”

Stay in touch with the office

There are several useful applications that let you connect to your computer or network from afar, including Microsoft’s own Remote Desktop Connection. I like these options because you can catch up on any information that you may have forgotten to synch up before you left. My biggest gripe with these programs is that they tend to be slow ” particularly with a dial-up connection ” making large data downloads impractical. But if you couldn’t synch up before your trip, they can be a real lifesaver.

Collect information ” and back it up

Normally, small business travelers are good at collecting business cards, sales leads and receipts. But this valuable information doesn’t always make it back to the office. My record keeping was so inadequate when I started traveling on business that I missed numerous charge-card payments. I ended up losing money because I couldn’t get reimbursed.

When in doubt, switch to paper

This is obvious advice, but it’s so obvious that we sometimes forget it’s an option. We’ve become so dependent on our technology that we don’t remember that we could just write the information down. My partner used to make fun of me when I printed out the names and addresses of people before leaving on a business trip. Why do that when everything was on the computer? Well, there are still some things paper can do that a PC can’t. Like operate without batteries. So when my laptop ran out of juice and I switched to paper, I didn’t look like a fool.

Most Common Wedding Superstitions

by A Nutt

Your wedding is supposed to be one of the most important and special days of your entire life. Generally, weddings are highly anticipated and planned months or even years in advance. Much care is taken to ensure that every single detail is just right. From the decorations and flowers, to the music, wedding vows, food and cake – every bride wants everything to be perfect. There are many time-honored traditions that are generally observed (or at least considered) in the wedding planning process. Some of these are very important, (such as the exchanging of vows and wedding bands) and others are more lighthearted – such as the tossing of the bride’s bouquet. Whether you are superstitious or not, some of the more lighthearted wedding traditions may appeal to you. Below is a brief overview of some of the most commonly known wedding superstitions.

The Weather There are conflicting superstitions from different parts of the world regarding the weather on your wedding day. Some say that a rainy wedding day is actually good luck. Others claim that rain on your wedding day signifies that you will shed many tears throughout your married life. A sunny day symbolizes warmth and happiness in marriage.

The Decorations Candles are used as decorations in many weddings. Lit candles that go out are rumored to signify that evil spirits are close. Flowers are also very commonly used in weddings. It is customary for the groom to wear a flower from the bridal bouquet in his coat’s button-hole. This dates back to Medieval times, when a knight would wear his Lady’s colours as a declaration of his devotion. Flowers have different meanings, and it is good luck to choose flowers that have special symbolism for the bride and groom.

The Dress A white wedding gown is said to symbolize chastity or virginity. In some cultures this superstition holds true. However, another theory is that in the old days, white cloth was very expensive. Bleaching the cloth to white cost a lot of money, and therefore white signified the very best. Back then, the whiter the bride’s dress – the more wealthy the bride’s family was. Another superstition related to the actual wedding dress involves death! It is said that if the bride’s wedding gown rips the day before the wedding, the marriage will end in death.

The Flower Girl Ever wonder why so many rose petals are strewn about by the flower girl? Not only is it cute, but it is setting the bride and groom up for a long and happy family life. The rose petals symbolize the bride and groom’s chances at having babies. The more rose petals – the more babies!

The Cake In many cultures, the tradition is to save the uppermost, smallest layer of the toronto wedding cakes rather than serve it at the wedding. The cake is then wrapped in plastic wrap and paper towels in order to conserve it well, and it is then frozen. The wedding cake is left in the freezer until the happy couple’s first anniversary, when it is defrosted and enjoyed. The superstition says that eating the wedding cake on the first anniversary will bring back all the joy and magic of the wedding day.

Right After the Wedding When the bride and groom exit the church after their wedding ceremony, it is customary for all the guests to toss handfuls of rice at them. This is another way of ensuring a long and fertile family life. The more grains of rice thrown, the more babies the couple will have. The noise made by the tin cans that are attached to the couple’s auto is intended to scare away evil spirits.
