So the diet isn’t necessarily working? Don’t despair. Losing weight is as much changing your mindset as it is anything else. If you can read a nutritional label, you can drop those unwanted pounds. And don’t use the excuse that it was just too late to cook. You can whip up something quickly that’s better for you than all the trans fats you’ll be taking in at Jack-In-the-Box. Here are 10 sure-fire ways to help shed those love handles:

1. Fast food is a no-no. Anything processed should be avoided as much as possible. While you might think they taste good, food and drinks such as candy, ice cream, Coke, Pepsi, cake, etc. often contain hidden sugar and fat.

2. Exercise more. This will help to burn fat and control your appetite. Walk, jog, swim, ride a bike; anything that will get your heart pumping. If your current health condition prohibits anything strenuous, consult with your doctor.

3. How much fat; how many carbs? Too many of both, in combination, and you’re going to gain weight. Slowly (I emphasize slowly) cut back on one until you begin to see results. You can’t just totally eliminate both. That’s not a healthy alternative. Certain fats, for example, are essential in your diet. Just be smart about it and find the ratio that works best for YOU. Don’t go from a high ratio of both every day to completely eliminating both. That’s not good.

4. Reduce your fat intake. This is not as difficult as it may seem. A pair of kitchen scissors works wonders. Let’s say you have a passion for chicken. Skinless is better, especially if you like your chicken fried. Before you cook it, trim the visible fat. Reduce your intake of red meat and start buying lower-fat varieties of fish, turkey, pork, etc.

5. Be wary of sugar. A little certainly won’t be a big deal, but if you absolutely feel you need to use it in your cooking, be smart about how much you’re using.

6. Don’t overdo the booze. If you drink too much, it changes to fat. Bottom line.

7. Don’t starve yourself during the day. Don’t think that not eating will give you free reign at dinner. Not a good idea. If you do this, you’ll tend to eat more. Keep yourself satisfied during the day by eating several small meals, but make sure they contain lots of fruits and vegetables.

8. Occupy your time. Get yourself a hobby. If you have something that will divert your attention, you’ll have less time to think about food.

9. Eat more fruits and vegetables. The more you eat, the less likely you’ll be to want processed foods. Okay, you’ll probably still WANT them, but you’ll be less likely to eat them. The more natural the food, the greater the fat-burning quality.

10. Eat less, but don’t go hungry. Eating low fat tends to make you less satisfied. Don’t give in to the temptation. If you have to snack, pick things that are low in fat or carbs. If you’re disciplined enough to follow these 10 rules, you shouldn’t have difficulty shedding the pounds.

Just be diligent in your efforts, and you should see drastic results in a matter of weeks.

What is in a Typical Mexican Meal?

by KC Kudra

Mexico offers a unique cuisine that is delicious and healthy. Ancestral home to the Mayan, Aztec and Zapotec civilizations, Mexico has a long history in cultivating food. Native staples included avocados, sweet potatoes, corn, beans, tomatoes, peppers, and a variety of squash. For meat, they hunted deer, turkey, quail, and rabbit. Chocolate is a native plant in this area, and was prepared as a beverage for the Aztec royalty.

Once the Spanish arrived, their cuisine was introduced. Bread, cheese, beef, and cream were added to the native foods. They introduced chickens, sheep and pigs, as well as wheat and sugarcane. By the time Spain gave up ruling Mexico, their influence was well blended with the native cuisine.

The most important ingredient in Mexican cuisine is corn. Cornmeal, also known as masa, is made into dough that forms the base for tamales, empanadas, and tortillas. Corn is also added as an ingredient to stews, soups and more. Flour tortillas are more popular in northern Mexico. Chili peppers are frequently used in Mexican dishes. Jalapenos, Serrano and poblano chilies are some of the more popular choices.

Beans also provide a good source of protein in Mexican meals. Pinto beans are found in the north, while black beans are popular in the Yucatan peninsula. There are many different varieties used throughout Mexico to make dishes like frijoles (refried beans).

There are many regional favorites found in the typical Mexican meal. Beef is used frequently in the north, as it is hot and dry, with good grazing grounds. The Pacific coast is known for coffee production and its corn stew. The Gulf coast offers a wide variety of seafood and fish dishes, tropical fruits and vegetables. Central Mexico has the most distinctive Spanish influence, and the Yucatan people commonly eat seafood, shellfish, eggs, corn, and black beans. Herbs are used liberally throughout Mexico.

If you want to try making an authentic Mexican meal at home, there are many recipes online to try. Mexican rice recipe are easy and delicious. They are a good dish to start out with. Once you have tried making rice (arroz in Mexico), you will find yourself adding it to your menu frequently.

Try something new and experiment. Adding a different bean can change the texture or flavor to a dish. Add tortillas or refried beans as a side dish, or throw together some fresh seafood and citrus juice to make a cooling ceviche on a hot day. Mexican food is great for kids to make, too. Let them make their own quesadillas or tacos.

You can also add Mexican cuisine to any meal. For breakfast, try mixed tropical fruit or scrambled eggs mixed with salsa. Top a tortilla with a fried egg and add some ham, tomatoes, chilies, and cheese. Add a side of refried beans and you will have a breakfast that will break up the normal routine.

First-class Tips For Grilling Chicken

by Jack Mason

If you enjoy outdoor activities then grilling chicken is something you will definitely find it fun and rewarding. To grill the chicken into juicy and tender meats, you need to learn the important skill of cooking the chicken at the right temperature so that your chicken will not get burned or undercooked. Simply placing frozen chicken on the grill is not going to produce the type of juicy and moist meat you have in mind.

Many of the grilled chicken recipes require that you marinate the chicken first before grilling. If you’re going to use a marinade, make sure that you let the chicken marinate for several hours before grilling. If you’re simply can’t afford to wait so long, you can always use an injector to get the flavor deep inside the meat. Most of the grilled chicken recipes will work best on both indoor grill and outdoor grill so you can be rest assured that you can grill your chicken over charcoal too.

As a golden rule, you should avoid piercing the chicken beforehand unless you intend to grill them immediately as the fat will drop out and catch fire. Tongs are really useful and you should get one to help you move the chicken around. If a flare up happens, you should immediately move the chicken to the upper rack with the tong or remove them from the grill until the fire is gone.

If you want to minimize the occurrence of flare up in your grill, you will need to remove all the excess fat from the meat, including the oils in the marinades and sauces you use. For charcoal grilling, you need to make sure that there are no flames first before grilling the chicken unless you want to eat burned meat. The safest way to do is to only place the chicken on the grill when the coal turn gray about 1/2 through the coal.

Temperature around 230F-250F is the perfect heat for grilling chicken and the cooking time should take no more than one hour. Make sure that you turn the chicken pieces every ten minutes so that both sides can be cooked evenly. If you’re going to use BBQ sauce, make sure that you add it ten minutes before the chicken reached its cooking time.

If you want to check whether the chicken is cooked properly, just slice deep into the meat and you should see that the juices are run clear. Avoid eating undercooked chicken because they contain salmonella which are bad for your health. You should also let the chicken rest for a while after removing them from the grill so that the juice inside will develop and you will have moister chicken.

by Carrie Smith

I love to cook with oranges. Oranges are really a wonderful thing to have on hand when it comes time to cook something. There are so many different ways you can liven up a meal with an orange. With that being said, I will show you why orange recipes are so wonderful.

Oranges are so delicious and are chosen over other citrus fruits because they contain less acid and more of that sweet sugar. That is the reason why oranges are used so much in recipes. These are the reasons why oranges are also eaten plain, unlike most other citrus fruits, and why they are so good in recipes and combined with other meals.

The first and foremost orange recipe that comes to everyones mind is of course orange chicken. And why not as orange chicken is by far one of the most tastiest orange recipes out there. The best thing about orange chicken, you dont have to be a pro to cook it. And I know from personal experience.

Another famous orange recipe would be of course the orange julius. There is even a little shop in most malls that sell only that. And if you have ever tried an orange julius, you know why. And the nice thing about the orange julius is that they are surprisingly easy to make.

And something closely related to the orange julius is orange ice cream. And if you are anything like me, then you love homemade ice cream, especially orange flavored. There is nothing cooler then having some orange flavored ice cream on a hot summer day. Once again, a fairly easy recipe.

And get ready for this next wild idea, orange pie! When I first saw this recipe I didnt know what to think, but it was good. Its a pretty easy recipe to follow too. This is perfect to have around christmas time. Your family wont know what hit them!

Orange chips are always good to have around. You get both a tasty treat and a healthy one too. If you have kids that can often be a hard thing to accomplish. Once again, not that hard of a recipe either.

I barely scratched the surface of what you can do with oranges in your recipes. Going with orange recipes really cant go wrong. Oranges are an excellent source of vitamin c and other wonderful healthy benefits. I know that I keep my favorite orange recipes handy and cook with them at least once a week.

Recipe for a Delicious Green Cocktail

There are many recipes that you can try and many books and resources are available on the subject. I am going to give you this one recipe for a Green Juice Cocktail made with green vegetables, apples and lemon:

Simple version:

1 head romaine lettuce or 3 stalks of celery

5-6 leaves of kale

1-2 apples

1 whole lemon (with peel)

Additional ingredients (optional):

1 cucumber

1/4 to 1/2 ripe Hawaiian papaya (1/2 makes the juice sweeter)

1 handful of cilantro or parsley (or both for deeper green juice)

1 handful of fennel (stalk can be used too)

If you like, throw in some beets or carrots too, but then of course it will no longer be green cocktail… You may also like to add a small piece of garlic or ginger.

Drink it every morning or afternoon to jumpstart your energy!

Remember: It is best to drink your juice on an empty stomach.

The Benefits of Juice: Vegetable and Fruit Juice Advantage

So why juice fruits and vegetables instead of just eating them? What’s the benefit?

Well, first of all, a juicer separates the juice from the fiber of the fruits and vegetables making them easier to absorb, leaving you with organic water with all the important nutrients: vitamins, minerals, and enzymes from the plants. And second, just consider having to chop and then chew all the above ingredients – it sure does take a while!

Of course, everybody knows, that eating fiber is good for our health, too. However, when fiber is removed from the juice, our bodies do not have to waste energy on digestion and the nutrients are absorbed instantly. So, whenever you are experiencing low energy or any health issues – drink a glass of fresh fruit and vegetable juice. It certainly can’t hurt, and will most likely help!

The Basic of Diabetes Symptoms

by Deniss Durrell

It has become the epidemic of our time. Diabetes is a disease that is affecting more and more people on a daily basis.

It is a disease that can be monitored and handled, but you have to know that you have diabetes to handle it properly. There are several diabetes symptoms that will help you know that you might be suffering from the disease.

One of the most familiar diabetes symptoms is that you will make many trips to the toilet. If your glucose stages are too high in your blood then you will require to urinate more often than normal .

Another symptom of diabetes is a continual thirst. If you cannot feel to ever quench your thirst then that might be due to the fact your body is attempting to draw excess water from your blood stream.

Losing weight without any attempt can also be part of diabetes symptoms. This is an especially great symptom when it comes to Type 1 diabetes. Moreover , excessive fatigue can take its toll on your system when it emerges as one of the diabetes symptoms. This comes about again when the glucose levels in your body areoff kilter .

The last of the very recognizable diabetes symptoms is a feeling of numbness in your extremities. This can occur after a bit of time, and it can come on slowly so you will want to be sure to pay attention to it if it arises in your system.

There are other diabetes symptoms that can emerge so you will want to be on the lookout for. If you start to experience blurred vision, frequent infections, or even dry skin you might want to go to your physician’s office to get checked for diabetes.

Many of us are finding that our lives are getting more and more busy all the time. If we do not pay attention, it is not long before we find ourselves hitting the drive thru too often or heating up yet another TV dinner. After all, if you have had a long day and time is short, you might have trouble finding the energy to cook.

Convenience eating – consuming mostly processed food and eating out – leads to feeling unhealthy, gaining weight, and a lot of other bad consequences. In addition, it does not set the best example for the kids, either. After a while of eating like this, you could find yourselves feeling slow and tired and wishing for a home cooked meal.

The good news is that you can cook healthy, delicious meals at home, without having to go to a lot of effort. Some planning, a little pre-cooking when you have the extra time, and using ingredients like boneless chicken that don’t require a lot of prep can make it simple and easy to eat home cooked meals. Instead of cooking a whole chicken, then cleaning and deboning, or even having to deal with bone-in chicken parts, such as wings, you can get started on the meal right away.

Boneless Chicken Cooking Tips

Decide in advance what kind of chicken you would like to work with – fresh or frozen. Fresh boneless chicken must be used within a few days, limiting your options. Frozen, packaged chicken can be bought in bulk and can wait a lot longer before use, but you have to plan ahead to thaw it in time for dinner. That can mean knowing what you want to cook the night before so your chicken has time to thaw in the fridge. After all, working with frozen chicken can be a real pain.

Keep in mind that boneless chicken is often thinner and will cook more quickly than traditional chicken pieces. Cooking times may need some adjustment if you want to avoid overcooking your chicken.

Ideas for Boneless Chicken Recipes

This convenient meat can be used in all kinds of different types of cuisine. Boneless chicken works beautifully in most other situations where you would use regular chicken. Grilled, it can be used in salads, in fajitas, and stirred into pasta dishes.

This kind of chicken stir fries well and is great in almost any Asian cuisine you can think of. A chicken Marsala recipe is an excellent place to use boneless chicken, as is a curry or even an old fashioned chicken soup. Made with canned chicken broth and your choice of frozen vegetables, this is a meal that can go together in a jiffy, but still taste like home cooking.

There are so many options when you work with boneless chicken. This convenient food lets you enjoy real, healthy home cooking and skip the takeout, without having to interrupt your already busy day. If you have been looking for an alternative to convenience eating, ingredients like this may be the solution you have been waiting for.
