Some Key Things You Should Know About Offset Printing
Most organizations require a printing service on a regular basis, whether it is for promotional purposes or intra-company communication. Offset printing is the most commonly used printing technology and learning about it is therefore helpful and essential.
Offset printing is so well known among printing service providers and clients because for large quantities, it turns out to be cheaper than alternative methods. Therefore good printing service suppliers recommend the use of offset printing for bulk prints.
This printing technique uses oil-based ink, which the water can not dissolve. The offset printing is so called because the designs are transferred in an indirect way from the plates to the paper by use of rubber blankets as the agents.
The first step is preparing the images. Film negatives were employed in the earlier times for making images and then reproducing them to aluminum based printing plates. This is no longer needed as the technology is available for making the plates in one go through an image setting system. This plate is then put on a cylinder in the proper configuration. Then the water and ink are dispersed on the image plates, one after another. While the ink gets fixed to the image, the water gets attached to that part of the plate which has no image so that the ink does not spread beyond the image.
The image is then transferred from the plates to the rubber blanket spun on another cylinder, so that it is inverted. The image is reversed to its correct side by transmitting the image to sheets that have been cut according to the requirement and are put on a different cylinder.
Printed sheets are stapled, pasted, or arranged in any other manner as needed and the printing company delivers them after giving some finishing touches.
