Speed reading exercises aim to increase the rate of reading without affecting retention or comprehension of the text. There are many different methods for speed reading but the essential is that they all focus on a balance between speed and comprehension. Another thing; they all necessitate a certain amount of practice.

Speed readers go about their thing in a variety of ways like not vocalizing all words, making out words without recognizing every letter in each word and quickly skimming through the text. Each reader will have methods that come more in a more instinctual way and they’ll unveil themselves with practice and time. Overall, the goal is to get your eyes to move at a faster rate and recognize words quickly.

Skimming is the way a reader can search visually through a text for clues to what the meaning of the article might be. In general, skimming is not considered the most effective method for texts that are denser in information because it doesn’t lead to a great comprehension. Oppositely, this method is effective to grasp the essential meaning of a text.

Meta guiding is another method, perhaps the most widely taught, that speeds up the reading process. It consists of guiding the eye along the lines of text using another pointer like a finger or a pen. This method speeds up the movement of the eye and subdues subvocalization.

A basic speed reading exercise consists of using your finger to pace yourself through a text and accelerate the rate at which you would normally move your eyes across a line. Moving your finger gradually faster will force your eyes to recognize words quickly and hence accelerate your speed of reading.

There is a second exercise possible to learn speed reading skills and that consists of skimming over the text and look for key words tying into the meaning of every sentence. This exercise implies reading in blocks and there are other more complicated exercises that repeat this method.

This third exercise needs a little bit of preparation time and some index cards. Blocks of words, phrases or sentence fragments will need to be written on the index cards. The exercise itself consists of reading what is written on the index cards instead of reading an integral text. During a few minutes, one must quickly scroll through the index cards while recognizing the set of words that are on every card. In practicality, this increases the recognition of words and accelerates the speed of reading fragments of sentences.

Each and every one of these speed reading exercises requires some time to be invested in order to actually work. For optimal conditions, the reader should have plenty of rest and optimal level of concentration while practicing these exercises. It takes time and a lot of practice before a reader will really increase his speed. Reading really fast is possible while keeping a good level of retention and comprehension.

Speed reading can be a great tool for the academic or the professional world alike. It is fairly easy to learn and doesn’t cost a thing. All that is needed is a few speed reading exercises, some patience and a little determination.

our time is priceless. learn how to read better and faster and read those speed reading tips and you will learn how to improve your reading speed quickly with few speed reading exercises.

As we get older, we often lose information that we have learned. Our memory seems to get shorter and it’s harder for us to recall information like we did when we were younger. Your brain actually learns best from the time you’re born until you’re 20 years old.

When you listen to specially made audio files, you can learn a variety of things while you sleep. You can change your outlook on life, learn to speak foreign languages or become better at remembering facts and figures. There are many topics that are available for you to purchase and learn. A quick scan of the internet will bring out lots of ideas or, once you’re used to sleep learning, you can likely adapt other programs to use your sleeping hours.

Once a man was trying to help his son prepare for class and decided to read a poem out loud to the child as he slept. The boy had been having a very difficult time learning the poem but when he woke in the morning, he was able to quickly and easily recite the poem. This gave his father an idea for a contraption that he named the cerebograph. This item was shared with a group of 40 UNC students and they all benefited from using it.

He then created a machine that was part record player, part microphone and part clock. He found a psychologist at UNC that committed to using the device for a study and after two years and forty students, the device proved successful. Nowadays, it’s been copied by a number of sleep learning companies who’ve transformed it into easy to use CD programs.

It’s true, you can learn while you sleep. Benefit from opening your subconscious mind up to all sorts of information and become a more well rounded individual.

The Four Stages of Learning

by Michael Angier

Paul Zane Pilzer, a leading economist, predicts that nearly half of the jobs people will have in the next five years haven’t even been invented yet. Today, over 90% of the jobs in the U.S. weren’t in existence when most of us were born.

What that tells me is that understanding the learning process is a major key to our future success. There are four stages of learning anything.

* Unconscious Incompetence This is when you don’t know that you don’t know how to do something. For instance, a young child isn’t aware that he doesn’t know how to drive a car.

* Conscious Incompetence In the second stage, you become aware you don’t know how to do something. You know that you don’t know. This awareness is critical. Attempting to drive a car without knowing how to drive a car could prove fatal.

* Conscious Competence The third stage is when we know how to do something, but it requires we be very much aware of what we’re doing.

To continue with our example, when you first learn how to drive a car, you must concentrate on blending the power, easing out the clutch, watching traffic and the many other skills that are part of operating an automobile.

* Unconscious Competence This is when you’ve reached a level of competency, which requires little or no thought. The skills are ingrained so deeply that you can talk, adjust the radio, open the window and think about your next presentation-all while orchestrating the direction, speed and performance of the car.

As we progress through the new millennium, being able to learn new skills and quickly access information will be critical to our success. Knowing how to learn will become one of our greatest assets.

Adult Dyslexia Cures And Conditions

by John Thompson

Dyslexia is really only a learning disability, and it happens in both children and adults. One of the most telling characteristics is the difficulty in reading, especially when it comes to reading. Many neurologists have tracked one of the root causes of the disorder to be rooted in the brain and how it processes and understands spoken and written language. This doesn’t mean that you are less intelligent. You can work around it. One thing that you have to learn about the disorder is that there are many types of dyslexia, and they are all categorized.

Dyslexia is a lifelong issue that you work with your whole life. It affects work, family, friends and even their daily routines. It is necessary to learn to cope with adult dyslexia to be as efficient as possible. Remember this is something that you can deal with and work around.

If not diagnosed and worked with properly, you can create a long and frustrating situation for a person. Sometimes finding work can be really challenging, as things like being organized at work, dealing with numbers, writing memos, taking notes and remembering meetings are difficult to handle. It is so important to know how to deal with your condition. Learning to cope will allow you to live a full and happy life.

The downside is that there is no cure to end the condition but, there are many forms of structured learning and therapy that can help these individuals to learn how to write and read on their own. One of the ways is to leverage on structured learning like specialized phonics classes that focus on the reading deficits and improve on them.

Starting early, you can get your child in special classes. Children can also be exposed to a more engaging classroom environment, where teachers are trained to use games and the element of fun when teaching through textbooks, which can improve the attention and learning abilities of these children. More effective training and teaching methods can be given by teachers who have known and mild dyslexics within the school population.

The strategy involves learning to read on a word by word level. This mean not looking at full sentences. By doing this, the requirements must be fulfilled where they can master the skills needed to correctly pronounce each and every word and associated the correct sounds with speech/word correlation. There are also, in existence, many alternative therapies that are available for developmental and learning disabilities like dyslexia and they can include anything from special nutritional diets, osteopathy manipulation and homeopathy; just to name a few. So in learning disability dyslexia, these are some aspects you need to know.

Distance Learning Courses The Facts

by Jeff Holmes

Today, there is a growing interest in the area of distance learning courses. These courses can include correspondence courses, telecommunications (such as radio and television broadcast), and synchronous or asynchronous internet based courses, Net podcasts or even courses that are available on a PDA or smart phone. The number and variety of courses offered to today’s student’s is very vast.

Students can learn many modern disciplines such as graphic design or computer science, but they also have the chance to look into a very old science (which has accumulated and continues to today) becoming more popular in today’s world. Homeopathy distance learning courses are available from many different institutions. Given the increase in the popularity of an interest for homeopathic sciences, it’s worthwhile to take a considerable look.

Patients using homeopathy are doing so for different reasons or to try to cure or manage a lot of health problems dealing with topics from wellness to disease prevention as well as the treatment of injuries, illnesses, and chronic conditions. Many studies have told us that a large majority of patients look to homeopathic care do so for assistance with a repetitive medical issue. But most of the users of homeopathy self diagnose and administer treatment to themselves with homeopathic products and never consult with a professionalwith an expert homeopathic practitioner.

Whether it is achieved through homeopathy distance learning courses or other methods homeopathic practitioners train differently based on their location. in the majority of United Kingdom and other European countries, training in the field of homeopathy will generally be acquired as what is called either a primary or a professional degree finished in three to six years or during a postgraduate class of training for doctors.

In the US training for homeopathic certification is obtained via diploma programs, certificate programs, short courses, and correspondence courses. Training in this field is also an important area of the field of naturopathy which is a whole person medical system that originated in Europe and remains popular there.

The goal of naturopathy is to enable the ability of the body to repair itself assisted by dietary and lifestyle changes in addition to alternative medicines like CAM therapies (including herbal remedies, massage, and joint manipulation). In the US many homeopathic practicioners are in an existing health care practice wherein the practisioner is licensed. Such partnerships can include conventional medicine, naturopathy, chiropractic, dentistry, or acupuncture. Homeopathy is used to treat animals, and is a big part in a few veterinary practices. The laws of the United States specifying which training and licensure is required to practice this vary from state to state. Three states (Connecticut, Arizona, and Nevada) license practicing medical doctors specifically for homeopathy.

Do You Need A Kindle 2? Yes.

by Joseph W. Risinko

Kindle 2 units are arriving all over the US, as Amazon not only keeps to their delivery schedule but, in some cases, beats it to the punch. Kindle 2 Keyboard: I think the Kindle 2 keyboard is a massive improvement over the original Kindle (not that I owned the original Kindle), but I find that its not very user friendly, at least not for me. Kindle 2 is very slim and Apple-esque.

The redesigned Kindle 2 ebook reader got favorable reviews at the launch in New York City. [1] The connectivity needed to download books and browsing certain other sites is free of charge: The Kindle Store enables you to download, display and use on your Device a variety of digitized electronic content, such as books, subscriptions to magazines, newspapers, journals and other periodicals, blogs, RSS feeds, and other digital content. With the new Text-to-Speech feature, Kindle 2 can read every book, blog, magazine, and newspaper out loud to you.

The Kindle 2 is exactly what people want in a digital reader ” simple, sleek design. The Kindle 2 is BUILT to be a reader, and as such, does a great job. The newest Reader is fast, fast and faster.

With Kindle 2 Amazon kept everything readers love about the original Kindle”the convenience of reading what you want, when you want it, the immediacy of getting a book wirelessly delivered in less than 60 seconds, and Kindle 2s ability to disappear in your hands so you can get lost in the authors words. The Kindle 2 actually feels comfortable in my hand now”unlike the original Kindle which is much to angular and sharp-edged to be comfortable after an hour of reading. You will be able to eat with both hands while reading your current read.

Like some other electronic paper products, the Kindle 2 uses “e-ink” technology, which serves to make the letters and words on the screen look more printlike in their appearance. A lot of people, when they first see the screen, are genuinely impressed. The 600-by-800-resolution screen is the same size, measuring 6 inches; but now, packing the latest E-Ink technology, it gives you 16 shades of gray versus the 4 shades available on the original Kindle.

Wireless: 3G wireless lets you download books right from your Kindle, anytime, anywhere; no monthly fees, service plans, or hunting for Wi-Fi hotspots. Kindle was an interesting concept, and its ability to load books quickly and wirelessly was innovative- but as the author states, it seems much more likely that other devices will step in and do what the Kindle merely suggests: a better screen, better interface, and perhaps best of all much less DRM on the content. I love the wireless features, dictionary, electronic ink, etc. Especially with the wireless capability to get what I wanted on demand.

The availability of books in the Kindle format or any other eBook format is at the discretion of the publisher and/or author, NOT Amazon. However, I think that the advantages of eBooks over printed ones are great enough that the main factor affecting sales will be the popularity of reading vs that of listening to music.

Im a HUGE news junkie, and I would love to subscribe to the New York Times, the Washington Post, and a host of other faltering newspapers on my new Kindle 2. The weeks that I have spent with my Kindle 2 has made it clear that it is miles ahead of the competition. With an 800×600 resolution e-ink screen and unlimited free Internet access, the Kindle 2 makes a compelling choice for anyone who enjoys reading.
