Repair your faucet with much ease

by Scott Rodgers

Seemingly, Repairing a faulty faucet has forever been a tough thing to do. It isnt easy detecting which part of the faucet has given way. And more so, it surely is a very thought thing to get the faulty faucet get operative again, all on your own steam.

Leaking problem is very common in faucets. In such a case, you should immediately shut off the main electric plug of the house. It is always the wisest thing to do. And if there is hot water connection, turn off its water heater also.

The next step is to take off the faucet by removing the main handle. The cap is then unscrewed and the faucet is then padded with a protective spray to get the dust off and clean it. The plastic small nuts and bolts should be dismantled and cleaned with utter care.

After that, you closely observe the stem of the faucet. If its threads are gone, you go for a new stem and replace the old one with it. Else if its mildly dirty, you clean it with a piece of wet cloth, dipped in a cleaning liquid.

Now to stop the dripping- Just bring out the washer component of the faucet. If you feel that has been sent flat by the water gush, then simply throw it away and bring your faucet a new washer.

There could be another defect in your faucet. Probably it is too noisy. In such a case also, you need to check your washer at the bottom of the stem. You again start with separating the faucet from the handle.

After this, you got to simply thread the stem down to see and examine if its totally movable. If you are able to move it freely without much friction and restriction, then you surely you need to instantly replace your whole faucet, as its useless now.

So going forward, if you ever get to suspect that your home faucet is not functioning adequately, then in this case, you just dont need to call upon someone from outside. Following this guide, you can do it all by yourself without any outside help.

What is in a Typical Mexican Meal?

by KC Kudra

Mexico offers a unique cuisine that is delicious and healthy. Ancestral home to the Mayan, Aztec and Zapotec civilizations, Mexico has a long history in cultivating food. Native staples included avocados, sweet potatoes, corn, beans, tomatoes, peppers, and a variety of squash. For meat, they hunted deer, turkey, quail, and rabbit. Chocolate is a native plant in this area, and was prepared as a beverage for the Aztec royalty.

Once the Spanish arrived, their cuisine was introduced. Bread, cheese, beef, and cream were added to the native foods. They introduced chickens, sheep and pigs, as well as wheat and sugarcane. By the time Spain gave up ruling Mexico, their influence was well blended with the native cuisine.

The most important ingredient in Mexican cuisine is corn. Cornmeal, also known as masa, is made into dough that forms the base for tamales, empanadas, and tortillas. Corn is also added as an ingredient to stews, soups and more. Flour tortillas are more popular in northern Mexico. Chili peppers are frequently used in Mexican dishes. Jalapenos, Serrano and poblano chilies are some of the more popular choices.

Beans also provide a good source of protein in Mexican meals. Pinto beans are found in the north, while black beans are popular in the Yucatan peninsula. There are many different varieties used throughout Mexico to make dishes like frijoles (refried beans).

There are many regional favorites found in the typical Mexican meal. Beef is used frequently in the north, as it is hot and dry, with good grazing grounds. The Pacific coast is known for coffee production and its corn stew. The Gulf coast offers a wide variety of seafood and fish dishes, tropical fruits and vegetables. Central Mexico has the most distinctive Spanish influence, and the Yucatan people commonly eat seafood, shellfish, eggs, corn, and black beans. Herbs are used liberally throughout Mexico.

If you want to try making an authentic Mexican meal at home, there are many recipes online to try. Mexican rice recipe are easy and delicious. They are a good dish to start out with. Once you have tried making rice (arroz in Mexico), you will find yourself adding it to your menu frequently.

Try something new and experiment. Adding a different bean can change the texture or flavor to a dish. Add tortillas or refried beans as a side dish, or throw together some fresh seafood and citrus juice to make a cooling ceviche on a hot day. Mexican food is great for kids to make, too. Let them make their own quesadillas or tacos.

You can also add Mexican cuisine to any meal. For breakfast, try mixed tropical fruit or scrambled eggs mixed with salsa. Top a tortilla with a fried egg and add some ham, tomatoes, chilies, and cheese. Add a side of refried beans and you will have a breakfast that will break up the normal routine.

The Well Dressed Fireplace

by Cameron Mitchell

As the popularity of cable home-improvement shows proves, homeowners are fascinated by updating their residences. Fireplaces are not exempt from this. Fortunately, homeowners can turn to a number of fireplace accessories to add new life to an outdated hearth.

One of the best ways to spruce up an old fireplace is with an insert, one of the most popular fireplace accessories. Basically a heating unit that can be retrofitted into an existing fireplace, an insert can quickly boost the efficiency of fireplaces that have over the years become drafty.

Manufacturers make inserts that work with fireplaces that run on wood, gas or wood pellets. These inserts can either use a fireplace?s existing chimney for venting or, in their non-venting version have no need to use any chimney at all. Vent-free inserts feature blowers that circulate heat through a room, cutting out the need for outside venting.

But inserts are just the beginning of the fireplace accessories from which homeowners can choose. For instance, homeowners can add new life to their fireplaces by choosing a new mantel or surround. These items today are made from everything from hard and soft woods, brick and ceramic tile to marble, soapstone and granite.

Glass doors are another type of fireplace accessory that homeowners can customize to add their own touch to their home?s hearth. The glass doors of a fireplace can be clear, mirrored, etched or smoked. Each option gives a fireplace its own distinct look.

Some fireplace accessories are more about ambience. Homeowners who seek the sounds of a wood-burning fireplace without the attendant muss can purchase high-quality sound systems that duplicate the hisses and pops of a crackling fire.

Choosing the right fireplace accessories does take research. Officials at the Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association recommend that homeowners consider the existing colors and textures of a room before purchasing a new soapstone mantel or beveled glass fireplace door. An accessory that looks great in the showroom, may not work in certain rooms.

Those homeowners struggling to pick out the perfect fireplace accessories may turn to cable-TV home shows or home-decorating magazines for ideas. Sometimes a photo or video montage will guide homeowners toward the perfect fireplace accessories.

The choices may be many, but this flexibility means that homeowners can make sure that their fireplaces fit in perfectly with the rest of their residence.

Youd have a difficult time finding anyone who wouldnt agree that setting goals is really the best way to achieve your dreams. However, sometimes setting goals is easier said than done.

In many cases we tend to assume that those who actually reach their goals, financial or otherwise, are just lucky, or caught a break. But, in reality, its more likely that those who consistently accomplish their goals have a plan for their success ” and they work their plan. So, how can we set goals, and use our environment to help us achieve those goals? Well, one thing that Ive done recently for some of my clients is to transform their environment so that their goals are ever present. Here are some things that may help you internalize your goals.

1. Written Words. Written goals are more likely to come true than those that aren’t. A great way to visualize and remember your goals are to put them into words. A great way to do this is to add a few inspiring words to the walls of your office, workspace, and home. This can be achieved simply, inexpensively, and without damaging the walls by using vinyl wall lettering, which you can purchase online at websites such as vinylwalllettering.com. Words such as DREAM, INSPIRE, PASSION, etc. followed by a customized quote can act as a reminder of the goals you have set for yourself.

2. Imagery. The power of imagery over our minds is undisputed by almost all psychologists. Seeing is believing. So, make sure you see your goals. If you want a new car, set a picture of what you want as your backdrop, or rent the car you want for a daydrive it.make it yours. Seeing really is believing. If a new home is your goal, go look at new homesthe kind you want. Find one, go and take a tourimagine yourself there.

3. Work . How many of us can move a mountain with our mindI mean literally, without taking action. Nobody I know can. Accomplishing goals takes work. You have to make the effort. Once again, a well thought out set of goals is only a dream if youre not willing to put for the effort to make them a reality.

So how does this tie into Feng Shui? It ties into Feng Shui because according to Feng Shui principles your environment directly impacts all facets of your life, as well as your effectiveness in achieving your goals and purposes. The principles stated above help you create an environment that reflects and reinforces the goals and desires you have, which meshes perfectly with Feng Shui principles. Just like the Chinese and Japanese, who often hang banners in their homes and places of business to remind them of their goals and aspirations, vinyl lettering in the form of wall words can serve as a reminder of our goals and dreams. I have used Japanese Kanji characters along with inspirational quotes from the vinyl lettering site vinylcraftlettering.com, and the results have always been inspiringly beautiful.

It might be obvious to many that the Hot Tub industry has not really been thought of as a GREEN industry before. The major reason being that most hot tub companies spray fiberglass and resins, use plastics and steel without much regard for the environment, except to follow EPA guidelines and call it a hot tub. Times have changed now and the “The California Energy Commission (CEC)” decided to set the trend. They created some of the most rigid standards in the USA that monitors energy efficiency. CEC recently revised a bill called “title 20″, which sets a standard amount of allowable energy used by a portable spa/hot tub. The amount of allowable energy per the new guidelines, was not met by 65% of hot tub manufacturers. These hot tubs failed an independent study done by California Polytechnic State University. Softub, a 20 year old company, was the only manufacturer to pass these new guidelines without having to make any changes to its manufacturing process.

There are now some hot tubs that comply with these new regulations or have since complied with manufacturing changes, Softub is a first in the Hot Tub Industry considering its unique design, function and in its green industry standards that have been a part of the “Green Movement”, since its inception. Many states are now adopting the CEC standards and implementing these energy requirements.

So what is a Softub? It is a soft sided hot tub. The company was formed in 1985 and is considered to be one of the leading spa manufacturers worldwide. Softub has had to make minimal changes to the product over the years including the “patented ozone water sanitation system” and “smart chip power monitoring system”. It is these elements that have added to this green product to make it the most energy efficient hot tub on the market. Below are some reasons that Softub has been THE Green Leader in the hot tub industry:

1. Energy Efficiency is Softubs strong point – While the state of California was the first governing body to adopt energy efficiency guidelines for hot tubs. All Softub models have long operated well under the required baselines for the units. These guidelines are similar to fuel economy standards for automobiles so now all hot tubs sold in the state of California and soon other states as well, must meet a baseline energy usage level.

2. SmartChip Technology – The patented Softub Smartchip is able to recognize low power events, such as brown outs and will and shut off your tub before any damage occurs. Along with this is also programmed to have a patented energy efficiency system. When the Smartchip senses a voltage drop it will shut down the pump. It will continue to monitor the in-coming power and will automatically restart the spa when the voltage returns to a normal level. In the event of a power outage, Smartchip automatically resets at 100 degrees. The patented “Energy Efficiency Program” monitors the filtration system. If the system filtrates during standard heating cycles, the programmed filter cycles are by-passed to save energy. If adequate filtration does not occur during heat cycles, the automatic filter cycles occur. Thanks to the Softub Smartchip, you can run all electrical appliances normally, without fear of damaging your spa or other household appliances.

3. Softub Patented Ozone Water Oxidizing System – For sparkling clean water and less chemical use, all Softub units come with a built-in ozone system. In Softubs, ozone is distributed evenly through all jets as opposed to other spas that utilize only 1 jet as a delivery port. This system is the only method that controls ozone delivery throughout the entire body of water. Ozone attaches to dirty chorine and oxidizes the contaminant and makes the chlorine new again, thus utilizing fewer chemicals.

In conclusion we can see that Softub has many aspects that make it your green hot tub solution. It is Softub’s simplicity of operation, durability and true portability that are its biggest assets. If you enjoy the noise and splashing of 57 jets and waterfalls and sitting on a hard acrylic seat than Softub is not for you. However if you desire a quiet, theraputic experience than Softub just might be what you are looking for. Most hot tubs require 220 v 50Amp service that can cost between $800 and $2200 dollars to install, they require special foundations costing from $400 to $800 and the bigger the tub, the more maintenance. Softub was designed to overcome all the complaints of hot tub users and to this day, is the most advanced hot tub on the market for therapy and/or pleasure. And Softub is now considered the greenest hot tub in the market today.

Increase Fuel Economy and Save Cash

by Rebecca Montana

So you want to save some green? All you have to do is drive smart to save green. It is not just about having an eco friendly car. Common sense tells us that if more people took up the challenge our whole country – even the whole world – would benefit in a

1. One of the best ways, actually the very best thing you can do to help save the environment with your car is to just stop driving it! Gottcha. Being a resonable person, however, I realize that you may not have that as an option. The next best thing then is to drive slower as a trade off. By driving at of between 50 mph to 60 mph yo will find that your car performs in a more fuel efficient manner. So drive not too slow and not too fast is how to drive smart, save green.

2. You can make more fuel efficent cars that can conserve a staggering 20% of a car’s fuel consumption just by switching to better tires. By taking into consideration tire roll resistance you are creating a better environment! On better quality tires you will now drive smart and save green. The money you are saving just goes back into buying a new set of quality tires, check their reviews to get a top of the line set. Because they will perform better you get better mileage. Remember too that under inflated tires will cost you more in gas bills! This is just one more simple way to increase fuel economy, imagine if everyone did it.

3. Carry a lighter load in your car. While you can’t get rid of some family members that fit the criteria, I’ll bet there are things in your car’s trunk that don’t need to be there. It is time for that cleaning you have been avoiding. Just bit the bullet and go through each item you regularly carry. If you don’t really need it, dump it. You can drive smart, save green with a lighter load. That will let your car be more fuel efficient.

4. If you are going to be sitting still for long, switch off your engine while you wait. Realistically, if you are likely to be waiting more than one minute than restarting your engine burns roughly about the same amount as one minute of idle time. So it is worth considering if you think you will be idling for more than a minute, cut the engine. You’ll save gas and money – drive smart, save green.

5. Learn to drive more smoothly. This one shouldn’t need to be mentioned. It should be the unspoken part of drive smart, drive green. Erratic driving with sudden accelerating and hard braking uses up extra gas. It puts extra wear and tear on your car, which means extra costs to you and the environment.

In conclusion, you have seen that learning to drive smart, save green is pretty much common sense. If you really need your car, then learn to drive it responsibly and sensibly. However, if you can walk easily to where you need to go, then do so! Only drive smart, save green when you can’t walk.

Read This Before You Buy A Garden Tractor

by Argo Pikes

Talk agriculture, and the classic garden tractor seems to be a blessing in disguise. The way these tractors are used ” You will find them being used in a variety of tasks. In essence, they are the master tools that help you in fixing a lot of tasks on your farm. Some time before, a lot of people used to flock to neighboring villages to see how the garden tractor worked.

This also created an opportunity for the people to visit new towns, enjoy food at a nice place & stay away for home in a motel. You would also get a change to enjoy the countryside and go sights seeing in the neighboring town. To make the most of the garden tractor there were attachments that were available but all had one thing on common, i.e. mowing the lawn.

However, mowing the lawn is something they were all designed to do. The lawnmower with an electric start was in a great demand as the other type had a pull start. It would be advisable to make a test drive for the lawnmower before you make a decision to buy it as it does cost a fortune to buy one.

When it comes to a garden tractor it comes with a bigger piece of equipment, heavy-duty machinery, a set of huge wheel & transmission plus an equivalent size of engine. The best part is, the wheels being huge in size are designed in such away that it will not damage the grass while working on an uneven grass.

To add to that you can also adjust the height of the cutting equipment & have a larger four-gallon tank. Accessories such as something to collect the grass clipping or another mover deck are also available.

Now, if you have an area of around two or three acres that you are working on, then the older version of the garden mover will be an appropriate option for your needs.

Koi Pond Design

by John Stoner

Like most other major projects, planning ahead will save you time, money and loads of frustration. Well planning your Koi pond design is no different. Take the time to plan out the project in detail before you turn the first shovel of dirt.

The shape of your pond is an important aspect of design. Many factors impacting the design of the pond you won’t be able to control. Certainly there will be existing landscape features, structures on the property, grade and slope of the property, etc. that will have to be considered. Always lay out several potential designs with rope or garden hose and view them from all angles. Make sure you view them from inside as well as outside and from second stories that may overlook the pond.

The depth of your pond is a critical consideration for several reasons. Koi get to be big fish. They can grow 3 to 6 inches a year. They need room to swim not only laterally but up and down as well. You need to have a minimum depth of 4 feet. Ideally, 6 to 8 feet will give your fish all the room they will need. This greater depth also helps to stabilize the water temperature being cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter months.

Certainly the bigger the pond, the more fish you can put in it, but there are always limitations. The smallest practical size for a Koi pond is about 6 feet by 9 feet, and 4 feet deep. This size pond will hold about 1600 gallons of water. In calculating the actual depth of your pond, don’t forget that there is usually about six inches from the water line to the top edge of the pond.

The best Koi pond design concept to keep in mind is “keep it simple.” A very simple design will allow for better water movement and thus better filtration. A very complex design may look spectacular, but cause other problems when it comes to keeping it clean. Keeping your pond chemically balanced is critical to the health of your fish. A simple design will make this much easier.

The best shape for your Koi pond is just a rectangular or oblong pond. This shape is the easiest to keep clean because it can accommodate multiple drains. A pond like this will have no dead areas with poor water circulation.

Certainly you want to locate your pond where you will get the most enjoyment out of viewing it. Most people choose to have it off a deck, porch or balcony. What your choice, make sure it is the focal point of your backyard or garden setting.

As you determine that perfect place, consider these issues. A pond in full sun is perfect for algae growth. Incorporate elements into your design to provide some shade. A pond under a tree is going to get dirty with debris and eventually cause the acidity to rise if not watched carefully. A pond next to large trees could find the pond liner pierced or concrete cracked by the roots. Keep your pond away from any locations that can have excessive rain water runoff. Make sure your pond not located to close to plants that require the use of harmful insecticides.

You live in the US. Surely if you live in the US you couldn’t be drinking drugs when you drink a glass of tap water? Could you?

Perhaps we can start with a quote from the Ralph Nader Institute. “U.S. drinking water contains more than 2,100 toxic chemicals that can cause cancer.”

Now even if there are 2100 toxic chemicals in the water that doesn’t necessarily mean that there are drugs in our water. But there is other evidence of drugs in water. Antibiotics especially.

As strange as it may seem there is evidence of drugs in drinking water from 1999 from a West Virginian high school student. Her name is Ashley Mulroy and she decided to do a high school project on contaminated drinking water. She took water samples from the Ohio river and tested for 3 different antibiotics (penicillin, tetracycline and vancomycin). She did this for 10 weeks and found them in all samples.

So she decided to test tap water for antibiotics, and got the same result.

Lets now take a look at a quote from the Environmental Health Perspectives website. “Roughly 100 pharmaceuticals have now been identified in rivers, lakes, and coastal waters throughout Europe and the United States.”

So lets now take a look at a quote from MSNBCs website. “Traces of 56 human and veterinary pharmaceuticals or their byproducts ” like the active ingredients in medicines for pain, infection, high cholesterol, asthma, epilepsy, mental illness and heart problems ” have been detected in Philadelphias drinking water.”

USA today has said: “A vast array of pharmaceuticals ” including antibiotics, anti-convulsants, mood stabilizers and sex hormones ” have been found in the drinking water supplies of at least 41 million Americans, an Associated Press investigation shows.”

There are municipal standards that require testing for germs and removal of germs from our municipal drinking water before it is allowed for public use, so it’s safe. But there is no requirement that water for public use be free from drugs.

So you can see from the quotes that it seems clear, there are drugs in our drinking water. The question is, what are the health risks of drinking unfiltered water with drugs in it?

Who knows the risks, I don’t?

Yes no one knows, but as we are all drinking small amounts of pharmaceuticals every day so we are all a part of a huge experiment.

So how can you protect yourself and your family from drinking water contaminated with drugs? You need to drink pure water.

Bottled water isn’t pure water, in many cases it’s no better than tap water, and can be worse.

But there are well recognized ways to purify your drinking water of drugs as well as those other “2100 toxic chemicals” that the Ralph Nader Institute tells us may be in that glass of tap water you’re about to drink now, or to cook with, or shower with.

The worlds best water filters will remove hazards like antibiotics, pesticides, herbicides, lead, heavy metals and much more from your water. So you need to use the best water filter that money can buy so you’re safe from drinking antibiotics and other “toxic chemicals”.

Why not visit my website to find out more about the worlds best drinking water filters.
