It might sound strange but one of the best places to lose weight and get in shape is right at your local grocery store. That’s right. Buy the best diet foods and put them in your menu throughout the week and you’re on your way to a lean, healthy body. This list can help:

1. Almonds; This all purpose nut is a great addition to anyone’s diet. It offers many health benefits such as Vitamin E, high in monounsaturated fat which can help lower your LDL cholesterol levels, it’s gluten free so it can be used in baking by anyone who is sensitive to gluten. Many people have also found that it helps with their complexion as well as help your digestive track and even the prevention of certain types of cancers.

2. Oatmeal; The complex carbohydrates and fiber in oatmeal has been proven to lower your cholesterol according to the FDA, which even allows a label on the box that says oatmeal can help reduce your risk of heart disease when eaten as part of a low fat diet. Oatmeal also contains high levels of vitamin B.

3. Low-Fat and Fat-Free Dairy Products; Cheese, milk, sour cream, yogurt, and cream cheese are available in low fat varieties which offer both healthy nutrients and great taste. Research also shown that it help lower LDL cholesterol level, reduce risk of hypertension, prevent childhood obesity, protect against gout, promote healthy thyroid function, prevent bone loss that occurs as a result of menopause or rheumatoid arthritis, and prevent migraine headaches.

4. Lean Meat; Lean meat is defined by the USDA as: a three oz portion that has less than 10 grams total fat, 4.5 grams of saturated fat, and 95 milligrams cholesterol. Lean meat is a great source of protein and B vitamins. Look for skinless chicken breast, turkey, and beef cuts that have the names “loin” or “round” in them. Egg; Egg is another easy to obtain good source of protein, it has the same protein as piece of beef or chicken and also contain vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E, riboflavin, folic acid, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, iron, calcium, phosphorus and potassium. All of the egg’s vitamin A, D and E is in the egg yolk, so forget the myth about eating only the egg white; it will only cut your benefits from egg. It’s recommended to buy egg from Vegetarian Fed Free Roaming Hens because they are fed with higher nutrient and not under stress when lay eggs.

6. Fruits; I don’t know about you, but I have a terrible sweet tooth. It’s tough when I’m trying to lose weight. But if I have a piece of fruit it helps a lot. There is also a huge nutritional benefit from eating fruit. Fruits are generally high in fiber and vitamin C. Stay away from fruit juices because they are loaded with sugar. If you aren’t that big into eating fruit make a smoothie. A friend of mine lost 35 lbs by eating fruit smoothies twice a day. Just use low fat or fat free milk, yogurt and your favorite fruit, you can even mix a couple different fruits. Tastes great, fills you up, provides a lot of nutrition and helps you lose weight. What could be better?

7. Olive Oil; Olive Oil is used for primarily for cooking while extra virgin Olive Oil is used more for salad dressings and cold food. Olive oil has a high amount of monounsaturated fat which is proven to help lower your risk of heart disease. Olive oil has been shown to also have anti-inflammatory properties and also help with high blood pressure.

8. Vinegar; This acidic liquid which comes from the fermentation of ethanol comes in several forms such as: malt, wine, apples, rice and coconut. Studies have shown that adding vinegar to your meals will help you feel full sooner so that you don’t eat as much. Replace mayonnaise, butter or oil in recipes with vinegar.

9. Ginger Ale; This carbonated soft drink, with the flavor of ginger, is full of lactose and probiotics like you would get in yogurt which can help keep you regular. Many swear that it can help relieve motion sickness, upset stomachs, and soothe sore throats.

10. Sprouted Grain Breads; Letting the grains soak until they sprout allows the enzymes in the grain to convert some carbohydrates and fats into vitamins, amino acids, and minerals. Because of this sprouted grain breads have higher levels of these vitamins and minerals than ordinary bread. Since it isn’t as refined as other breads, including stone ground wheat bread, it doesn’t have as big of an impact on blood sugar levels.

It is nothing new for people to go after fad diets in the hope of rapid weight loss. No matter how many times they fail you, the charm of fad diets is so irresistible that you seem to be drawn to them each time you notice an attractive claim, and the more attractive and hyped up the claim is the better!

I am not sure if you have heard of Genie Diet before, but it seems to be the new craze among obese adults these days. The point is: if it is just like the other fad diets which preceded it, then it is not worth your time. But what if it is real? Let’s find out the truth about Genie Diet in this article.

Whenever I review a diet, I don’t take into account the testimonials on the diet manufacturer’s website: more often than not, they tend to be either “fabricated” or offered by people in lieu of some bribe. You have probably added a lot of extra annoying pounds to your body through unhealthy eating habits and now you want to get rid of those pounds as quickly as possible! 3. Know the bad and good foods: The third step is to know about the calorie contents of the foods you eat. Such information is commonly available for free online. You might be surprised to realize that you eat a lot of high-calorie foods and only a few low-calorie foods. It is time to set the balance right!

4. Cut down on your daily junk food intake: The last step is to set a daily goal of cutting down on your junk food intake by taking away one food at a time from your daily diet and replacing it with a healthier alternative.

You probably dread holidays for one single reason: it is that time of the year when you have more chances of gaining weight than at any other time of the year! And why not! Most of the foods available at this time are full of fat and sugar, the two demons which make people overweight all too easily!

However, considering that holidays come only once in a year, it won’t be wise to cut yourself from the enjoyment entirely! In this article I will tell you about three ways to enjoy the holiday foods while at the same time keep the weight under control!

1. Eat well before attending the party: If you attend a party with an empty stomach, there is a higher chance that you will crave for the tempting junk foods available to you than otherwise! So make sure that you eat considerable food at home before venturing out! And what would you eat?

Definitely not cakes, sugar, biscuits, candies or cookies! Instead, you should fill yourself with protein-rich foods. Protein is known to keep a person full for a long time! Consequently you would be eating very little at the party, but of course, without any sense of deprivation! After all, you are not depriving yourself of the delicious foods: you are not eating them simply because you CANNOT!

Protein is also helpful in another way: it builds strong lean muscles for you! Since muscles need more energy to maintain themselves than is appropriate by fat, your body is forced to burn your fat deposits in order to produce this extra energy! Consequently, you lose weight! No I am not crazy. If you want to keep the weight away, you not only need to plan your regular food intake but also by how much you would be overeating. After all, no matter what you do, you won’t be able not to overeat anyway, what with all the temptations floating around; so why fight a losing battle? 1. Plan your party eating: When you attend a party, there would be a lot of delicious foods laid out there, but chances are that you would be interested only in one or two foods. Naturally there is no need to take a bite of every food available there. Instead, eat as much of your favorite foods as you want and leave the rest! Keep in mind that apart from this one instance of ‘cheating’, you should always maintain a healthy eating plan consisting of natural fruits and vegetables!

Here is an example. If cookies make you go weak-kneed, eat as many cookies as you need to satisfy yourself, but don’t go and try out something else such as eggnog or cakes! If on the other hand, eggnog is your weakness, then drink only that and leave the party when you are done, so that your temptations don’t get the better of you!

2. Working out doesn’t hurt: Actually, if you try to workout for several hours at a stretch then it might hurt, but since you are being proactive here and planning things ahead, why not start working out right now? Even if you exercise only for fifteen minutes per day, it would help you a lot in preventing gaining weight!

And take note that working out doesn’t mean hitting the gym day and night or buying a huge exercise equipment for your home; there are several simple exercises you can do at home even without the help of exercise equipments!

3. Get back to healthy eating: It is okay if you had a bucketful of cookies or several pegs of eggnog at your friend’s party, but that doesn’t mean you should continue with that kind of diet even after leaving the party. Once you leave the party and get back home, you should start back to healthy eating!

The percentage of obese adults in American alone is usually high, but it reaches astronomical proportions when it is the holiday season! If you have been struggling to lose weight and are still unable to attain your weight loss goal, it is extremely unlikely that you would ever be able to get slimmer, unless you do exactly what I say in this article!

So far as New Year resolutions are concerned, I doubt they would work well unless you take the necessary action. Studies point out that out of all people who take a strong and firm weight loss resolution in the New Year, only 10% are able to keep their resolutions while 90% either break it and go back to their normal eating habits or move from one fad diet to another with little success!

If you ask me, I don’t think it is prudent to wait until the New Year to start losing weight. Some people gain a lot of pounds in the holiday season expecting to lose them all by next year, but that rarely happens, if ever!

If you are serious about your weight loss resolution in New Year, make sure to write it down on a piece of paper so that you don’t forget it. Simply shouting your resolution standing on your rooftop on a moonlit night is not enough to make you lose weight! You should stick it both in your kitchen as well as on the refrigerator, the two prominent sources of ‘temptations’.

Another important tip is to take proper action to ensure that you reach your weight loss goal, otherwise your resolution would be nothing other than a piece of lifeless paper!

Most people cringe when the time for the required action comes. They make several excuses, such as they are ‘busy’, or don’t ‘feel’ like doing it, or that they would start it ‘tomorrow’ or that they would start it when the ‘weather gets better and warmer’, etc. There is no dearth of excuses you can make to keep yourself from losing weight, but they won’t help you reach your weight loss goal! The one and only thing that would help you lose weight is ACTION!

However small it is, you must take action right now. Remember that a journey of a thousand miles starts with one small step! Your action doesn’t need to make a huge difference to your body weight overnight, but it should take you one step closer to your weight loss goal!
