How To Make A Play Kitchen From Used TV Cabinets
The TV cabinets on today’s markets are sleek, small, and successfully designed to hold the tiny plasma televisions that are so popular nowadays. They are essentially nothing like their functional predecessors, which were bulky and gigantic with several different cabinets and shelves. The large objects are currently obsolete but are still useful, don’t throw yours out, turn it into a unique and new play kitchens.
A play kitchen is an extremely popular toy among toddlers and young children. Generally, the sets feature small refrigerators and ovens and they come with tons of plastic utensils and dishes. They also unfortunately tend to cost anywhere from two to five hundred dollars. However, if you make one yourself you can ensure that you spend less and get to recycle some unused furniture.
Study the old cabinet’s layout first and then plan your new play kitchen around it. The placement of the cabinets and shelves could be perfect spots for the set’s oven or fridge. Consider sketching out the plan, including where the sink and tap holes will go, and then keep them nearby so you will have them as a guide.
Begin by removing all the unnecessary glass and shelves and give the whole fixture a decent sanding. Use a small saw to then cut out the desired holes but make sure they are all the correct size before you begin painting.
The original cabinet doors of the item could double as great dishwasher and oven openings as well. Procure spray paint that’s aluminum colored and coat all the doors in it. For the one for the oven, use contact paper or paint the glass to simulate the real thing.
Next, attach the doors back and add your final paint coats. As for the sink of the kitchen, a large plastic bowl will work and an old sink tap can be fixed above it. Painted coasters or small lids are great makeshift stove tops and you can even attach little knobs next to them if you have any. If a fridge was included in the set, you can glue magnets to its door to make opening it a little more realistic.
Once the construction of the kitchen is all finished, start filling it up with appropriate extras. A large outdoor photograph can serve as a perfect window if it is affixed above the sink or oven. To add to the fun, fill the kitchen with plastic foods like fruit and cheeses and stock the cabinets with child sized pans and pots.
