To keep the price reasonable, T-Mobile and Google packed up the G1 Phone with the bare basics. Within days of its release, sales for accessories for the Google phone were selling as briskly as the G1 Phone itself.

The first thing people upgrade is the 1GB memory capability of the T-Mobile G1 phone. More and more people are storing huge music and photo files on their smart phones, so are buying extra memory. Memory sticks for the G1 are available in 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB.

The next thing people added to their accessories was some kind of protection against damage from getting knocked around or dropped. Sales of leather pouches, vinyl pouches, silicone cases, hard cases, hard plastic skins, and screen protectors took off.

Bluetooth headsets and car charging units complete the basic minimal entourage of Google phone accessories. If you are so inclined, there are also speakers, antenna, USB cables, and stylus pens to purchase.

That is just the beginning, and don’t forget about the applications. The latest application sounds great – a monthly fee for a GPS receiver application. How much smarter can a smart phone get?
