What Is Hypnosis Used For?

by Trevor Johnson

If you did a bit more research into hypnosis you will find that there are many people who do not believe in its powers. A lot of people believe that it is all a farce, and yes, in some cases it is. However, you should take into consideration that there are professional therapist using hypnosism but what is hypnosis used for?

If you went to a therapist you will find that any good therapist is able to do hypnosis on you. This is called hypnotherapy, and is very popular in the psychological industry. Many people go to therapist just for this type of therapy - any you thought all you need to do it talk!

This type of therapy is used on a wide variety of issues that a client is dealing with. The first thing and probably the most used method of hypnosis, in the early days, was to quit smoking. It was believed that a hypnotherapist could trick the individual brain into not wanting anymore cigarettes. This would be done by making him or her think that cigarettes are disgusting.

This turned out to be helpful and hypnotherapy to help a person quit smoking was a success. This did not happen overnight, and took a while for people to get right. Once they got it right however, they moved on to bigger and better things, with the obvious choice being weight loss. Weight loss through hypnotherapy also took a bit of time to accomplish, because it was a whole new ballgame.

It was not as simple as telling the person that he or she was thin. This would obviously not make the person thinner. It was more complicated than that, which is why it all came down to a bit more talking on the patient’s side. It had to be found why the person ate, was it for comfort, fear or anxiety?

It all came down to making the patient not want to eat as much, which in turn led to weight lose, and a thinner client.

Self-Love is Unconditional Love

by Kerri Kannan

We are raised with ideas that love has something to do with how we express ourselves toward others. We think that when we love someone, we will compromise and make them feel better and will sacrifice ourselves and do anything for the object of our adoration. While this is true to a point, it is backwards. You can not love another until you fully embrace yourself.

The notion that you must cater to the needs of others in the name of love creates internal conflict and it is really the furthest thing from love. We are taught that we must strive to “be good” but that implies that we are inherently “bad” or that there is something we must achieve or do in order to be good and loved. We set ourselves up for lives of unhappiness and Self-sacrifice, feeling that love comes from an external source and to attain it, we must cater to the perceived needs of others.

When you can embrace yourself, exactly as we show up, (whether you like the characteristics or not) you then allow yourself to be Self-loving. You cant help whether you feel anger or love in any moment, and you cant control other people and their perceptions. All you can do is surrender control and accept yourself and what you feel in any given moment, whether that feeling is of wanting to kiss someone or whether you want to kick them. You dont have to act on anything, merely accept that you feel it and once you accept it, you can then change it if you desire. You cant change something you are unwilling to see.

When you can accept your feelings in any given moment, you will eventually find that you are happy to be you and can remain steadfastly true to yourself by honoring your feelings. When you can be true to yourself and other peoples opinions hold no power over you, then you can truly love without condition. You find that your approval and acceptance is the only validation you need and little by little, your attachments to how other people respond to you melt away. You find that it makes no difference whether your love is reciprocated; you love because you feel love for yourself and nobody can take that away from you. You find that it feels wonderful to share yourself and your love with whoever will receive it, in whatever form it shows up; whether it is helping a stranger with groceries or being present with your kids or giving yourself over to your lover fully and completely.

When we release the need for external approval, we find our own validation and approval is the only one we need. We find that our love is expressed in everything you do and you free yourself to be completely and steadfastly true to ourselves. We also find that in loving the Self, we cant help but love every aspect of our lives because we see and express our own Love of Self in everything we do.

The Four Stages of Learning

by Michael Angier

Paul Zane Pilzer, a leading economist, predicts that nearly half of the jobs people will have in the next five years haven’t even been invented yet. Today, over 90% of the jobs in the U.S. weren’t in existence when most of us were born.

What that tells me is that understanding the learning process is a major key to our future success. There are four stages of learning anything.

* Unconscious Incompetence This is when you don’t know that you don’t know how to do something. For instance, a young child isn’t aware that he doesn’t know how to drive a car.

* Conscious Incompetence In the second stage, you become aware you don’t know how to do something. You know that you don’t know. This awareness is critical. Attempting to drive a car without knowing how to drive a car could prove fatal.

* Conscious Competence The third stage is when we know how to do something, but it requires we be very much aware of what we’re doing.

To continue with our example, when you first learn how to drive a car, you must concentrate on blending the power, easing out the clutch, watching traffic and the many other skills that are part of operating an automobile.

* Unconscious Competence This is when you’ve reached a level of competency, which requires little or no thought. The skills are ingrained so deeply that you can talk, adjust the radio, open the window and think about your next presentation-all while orchestrating the direction, speed and performance of the car.

As we progress through the new millennium, being able to learn new skills and quickly access information will be critical to our success. Knowing how to learn will become one of our greatest assets.

About the Author:
by Conrad Blomberg

Many years ago in France a man named Emile Coue came up with an idea which was unique for the time. His idea was that if you repeated a phrase to yourself often enough you could bring about change. No one had ever come up with such a seemingly original belief before Coues original thought.

What was Coue’s famous short phrase? You’ve probably heard it:

Every day, in every way I m getting better and better.

For some reason people began to recite this phrase and it seemed to work. But of course, neither Coue nor anyone else had any solid idea of why it worked. People just began saying this phrase and it eventually became famous.

Coue, apparently, had invented what are called Affirmations, today. They are just a phrase or a short sentence which Affirms that you want something to happen.

Do Affirmations work?

Yes, Affirmations do work. Virtually every self-help program or method extant today uses Affirmations. Some call it by a different name, but they are in the end all just Affirmations. Today, a large proportion of the population has apparently heard of Affirmations and many use this technique.

Why Affirmations do work.

(1) The more determined you are to make your changes, the better they work.

(2) Then, the more you are prepared to accept desired change, the more effective Affirmations are.

(3) When change occurs you should be prepared to accept it and let go of the past..

The more closely you follow these three steps, the better your Affirmations wlll work Being willing to accept change is a big part of making Affirmations come to pass. Your success is, as they say, up to you.

There is a reasonable idea behind Affirmation success.

Those who study this subject, indicate that the subconscious mind is key. We all have a subconscious mind, of course, and it is more powerfu lthan most people realize

When we say (and think) that an Affirmation is true, our subconscious has to make a choice. Will it accept or resist the Affirmation?

In the end, your subconscious will accept what you are saying to it. Dont be surprised if it takes some time. Your subconscious may not agree with you at first because it is zeroed in on your past set of beliefs. Some of these past beliefs may have been installed by your parents when you were very young. These early beliefs are often difficult to overcome.

Although, if your subconscious believed all along in what you said in your Affirmation, things could change fast. That is what happens when people say that the change was “a miracle”.

Affirmations will reprogram your unconscious mind’s belief system. This is what leads to change. Once resistance is broken, your subconscious is able to re-examine your core beliefs and patterns. The effect of this reprogramming can be startling and things can change fast as dysfunctional beliefs get identified and replaced by your personal new inner truth.

Because Affirmations reprogram your thought patterns, they actually change the way you think and feel about things. Because you have replaced dysfunctional beliefs with your own new positive beliefs, positive change comes easily and more naturally

A new computer program is reputed to be effective when it comes to Affirmations and making changes. This program runs on your computer. The author claims it takes but 10 minutes a day to become effective.

This article’s scope does not encompass more details than those given above. To go into detail would require writing a very long piece about computers and the mind, which we do not want to do here.

Exercises to Increase Vertical Leap

by Bart Icles

With many vertical jump programs currently out on the market, it seems that only a few of them really help boost an athletes’ jumping ability. The jump machines and jump shoes sold in sports retail shops that athletes and sports enthusiasts purchase provide some varying degrees of success. These so called jump enhancing toys may not be the only answer one can turn to in order to really have a substantial increase in jumping ability. Doing jump exercises in one’s own home is much more practical and effective than simply putting your trust in jump machines and jump shoes.

As with other exercise equipments found at the gym, the use of jump machines is quite limited as you are not the only one waiting in line to use them. And, as popular as these jump machines are, they are not as effective as you might realize.

Another popular item among jump enthusiasts are the jump shoes. These shoes are actually quite effective in helping the user jump higher in the first few times of using it. What this equipment does is train your calf and foot muscles to the point of over-using them, that’s why there is some clear results at first. But once the pattern of the training or use is done, it loses its effectiveness and may even cause injury.

In order to really see clear and long-term benefits in increasing your vertical leap, you have to follow and train diligently under programs that incorporate all the muscles involved in jumping. Since jump machines and jump shoes only target one or two of the muscles that an individual uses for jumping, the results they provide are quite short and limited. If you really want to fly past your opponents and do that dramatic slam dunk you’ve always been dreaming about, check out the programs that do this.

While jump exercises are clearly plays an important role in the subject, there is one other underestimated and often overlooked factor that will provide you with the quickest results possible –having the proper nutrition. Proper nutrition affects an athletes’ overall performance in terms of quickness, overall energy level, and jumping ability.

In conclusion, as many of the jump programs out there have yet to be proven to be really effective, going with this program may be your solution. It provides you with all the basic exercises important to jumping and gives you an excellent nutrition guide. Double your vertical leap…today!

Coaching and Feedback

by Bart Icles

Coaching is often thought as motivating people. However, coaching is not just about teaching and motivation, it is also helping others to develop their ability to focus, learn, and make changes. Coaching is both an art and process of encouraging, strengthening, and assisting in the performance, learning, and development of a person. It is helping a person unravel his true potential through increasing awareness, inspiring new ideas, and supporting creativity.

The objective of coaching is to direct vision, advocate brilliance and quality, and empower the person being coached. This is usually done through creating a more solid connection between the person being coached and his or her inner ability.

One of the things closely associated to coaching is feedback. The kind of feedback given to a person matters a lot in the success of the coaching process. Bad feedback focuses on problems and blame, weakens confidence and self-esteem, forms defensiveness, and can lead to confrontations. Instead of improving the skills of a person, bad feedback tends to impair it. Bad feedback also leaves persons guessing and makes persons feel they are being incessantly judged.

The effects of good feedback are totally the opposite. Good feedback motivates people, focuses on achievements or potential success, and creates trust and cooperation. Instead of focusing on problems, good feedback tries to lay out a list of possible solutions. It gives a clear assessment of a person’s current status and identifies the next steps to be taken. Good feedback makes a person feel and understand that his coach is there to help. Furthermore, it also inspires people to do more and increases their confidence in their abilities and potentials.

Certain practices result to effective coaching, including motivational coaching techniques. Discussing issues to develop solutions is one of the first steps. During discussion, it is important to acknowledge a person’s feelings and needs. It would be easier to uncover solutions if the discussion does not emphasize the faults of a person. A coach must also remember that good feedback is essential in recommending possible solutions.

Although negative feedback can hamper effective coaching, there are circumstances where problems need to be discussed. Coaching is a solutions-oriented art - in formulating solutions, problems should also be taken into account. Problems are only discussed so that the coach and the person being coached can jointly paint a picture of the desired result, and develop realistic steps to be taken.

Most importantly, coaches must remember that coaching is a balance of negatives and positives. The right combination of good and bad feedback generates the most powerful and successful motivating mix.

Hypnotherapy As Modern Medicine

by Haley Nielson

Hypnosis has been around for centuries, but only within the past decade or so have we begun to utilize this form of healing. Hypnotherapy has become one of the best solutions for many different health problems such as chronic pain, headaches, arthritis, and high blood pressure and so on. All hypnosis is self hypnosis. What this means is that even though you may be with an instructor who is guiding you through the process, it is up to you and your mind to follow the directions and make it happen.

One of the biggest misconceptions about hypnotherapy is that you are in no control over what you are doing and this notion can be frightening. Luckily this is completely false. Hypnotherapy allows you to enter an altered state of consciousness within your own mind, but you are never out of control and can always come out of trance if you start to feel uncomfortable. Our normal state of mind is full of assumptions, suggestions, negative thoughts and barriers. This could be the reason why many people are eager to enter their subconscious mind, to discover so much more about themselves.

You will have the ability to change how your subconscious mind reacts to problems, spots opportunities and even how you live your life. Many people are unaware just how involved their subconscious mind is in the every day decisions we make. The fact is that if your subconscious believes something, this is how you will act out in life. For example, if deep down in your subconscious you believe you are not good enough for that upcoming job promotion you are not likely to get it. The reason for this is that subconsciously you will begin to act as though you dont deserve it and then, you will get what you expect. Do you see how powerful our minds can be?

Hypnosis can help you altered your state of mind and take more control over your life. For centuries we have been letting our minds run how we live our lives and not even realizing it. You can opt to try self hypnosis through educational resources such as audio tracks and books, or you can find a hypnotic instructor to help you get started. It can be a very unnerving practice for your first try, but as you begin to learn the principles of hypnosis and follow them closely, you will begin to see life in an entirely new way.

Hypnotherapy has been studied more and more lately and researchers are finding this form of natural healing can do more for our health as well as our minds. Take control of your life today and see what hypnotherapy can do for you. It is a simple, relaxing and even invigorating practice that you can do at home, or while you are walking to work, on the bus, in bed at night, or in the bath tub. There are no limits when you understand what hypnosis can do for you. If you want to change your life and increase the opportunities that come your way, hypnotherapy could be the way forward for you.
