Sometimes the birth mother of a child is unable to cope or a single mother is considered unsuitable, yes this still happens in some countries, and as a consequence the child becomes available for adoption. The county foster and adoption system ensure that when a child is available for adoption that they are sent to live in the closest available foster home to their prospective parents. Now there is a push for a more complete and permanent adoption plan of the foster care system by the Department of Social Services brought about by regulation in an attempt to streamline the adoption process which will release more children to adoptive parents. There are many costs involved in adoption and can depend on how the child is being adopted, but if you are serious about this course of action, do not let financial considerations control your final decision. There are a number of adoption agencies to choose from but ensure that their license is current with the state’s licensing office before you commit to them.

Adoption has many different aspects that need to be overcome. Once all that paperwork is completed, the child has new parents and they have the child they have always wanted. In the United States for instance, when the adoption is finalized, the child’s name is legally changed and the child receives an amended birth certificate on which the adoptive parent(s) name replaces that of the biological or placing parent(s) and the child’s birth name is replaced with his/her new name. If the adopted child is very young then it may be many years and probably when the child is in their teens before they can fully explain the adoption process and the implications so that the child will understand.

Adoption in your own country is not always possible owing to the strict rules applied to it and if that is the case, then international adoption can be a good alternative. It used to be that children who were adopted internationally had little or no information about their parents and that there was little chance that they would in the future.

There are those couples, and singles, which adopt because they believe that there is little chance of them conceiving in the future but are often proved wrong and for others that just want to extend their family. It is good to know that there are more opportunities to adopt a child now than there have ever been before despite the difficulties often found in trying to do so.

Even with all the complications the adoption process entails, in the end a child gets a home and both the parents and the child get a family. So for the right couple all the hoops you must jump through are well worth it in the end.
