Researchers have shown that pregnant women can dramatically impact upon the health of their unborn children by determining what sorts of foods they eat while expecting. Expectant mothers who eat a diet rich in high quality and traditional Mediterranean diet were shown to provide their unborn children with a natural remedy for asthma and allergies.

The Mediterranean Diet study was conducted on pregnant women who lived in Menorca, a Spanish island. Researchers from the University of Crete monitored what sort of Mediterranean foods the women ate, and scored them correspondingly.

The pregnant women in the study, who all hailed from Menorca, an island off Spain, were monitored by the quality of the Mediterranean foods that they ate. Mothers’ diets were designated as high quality, low quality, and Western diet. The study started in 1997 and followed 507 pregnant women. Their offspring were monitored until they turned 6.5 years. Although 507 mums were in the study only 468 children were eventually documented. (Some apparently were eliminated for a variety of reasons.)

Secondly, what did these women eat? The pregnant women whose children benefited the most from the reduced risks of childhood asthma and allergies were those who ate quality Mediterranean cuisine, along with 3 serves of fish weekly, 1 serve of legumes, and 8 serves of vegetables each week.

What is the Mediterranean Diet? This diet is so called as it is based on a pattern of eating followed by various regional folk who live around the Mediterranean. Typically, Mediterranean cuisine comprises of plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, legumes, red wine, and olive oil. Fish is eaten moderately, and red meat is rarely eaten. Dairy products such as eggs, milk, cheeses, yogurts, and poultry are eaten in lesser amounts.

Researchers surmised that the protective health benefits of Mediterranean Diet for the unborn children came from 2 sources, antioxidants and omegas. Both these 2 ingredients are found in high amounts in Mediterranean cuisine. Antioxidants are beneficial in providing tissue health and omegas provide anti-inflammatory properties, especially in the airways (important in asthma).

Please note that drinking alcohol while pregnant is not recommended by medical authorities. No mention was made in the study of alcoholic intake for the pregnant women. A responsible conclusion would be that they were not consuming alcohol.

Conclusion - Following a quality Mediterranean Diet in pregnancy has been shown to significantly reduce the incidences of both allergies and asthma in the children of these mothers. Maximum protectives benefits were found in the expectant women who close followed a traditional Mediterranean diet and ate at least 3 serves of fish weekly, 8 serves of vegetables weekly, and at least 1 serve of legumes.

Know What Termites Look Like

Termite identification does not only refer to the ability to name the various members of a termite colony. As a homeowner who wants to prevent termites from infesting your home, then you have to know the basics regarding termites.

Termite Information

The most common termite, and the ones you are most likely to find are the worker termites. Worker termites have a creamy white color and are responsible in gathering food for the colony.

Termites stay away from the light as well as open air. Rather they dig out into the soil and work their way up the wooden sections of a house by means of the mud tunnels they build. This explains why the extent of the destruction to properties remain undetermined until enough damage has been made. For some, they will only find out the existence of termites when the damaged areas begin to break, revealing worker termites. Termite Swarmers

Termite Friendly Conditions

There are certain conditions that provide a favorable environment for termites. These conditions just encourage termites to infest your home. Any places where the wood portion of your house are in contact with the ground is a serious threat. Ground termites are partial to moist soil, and if it is near wood, then their foraging just becomes easier. Also check for any leaky pipes under and around your house. As well as any cracks in the foundation, which might invite the termites in.

Having a breakup is like having a waking nightmare. I know I felt unimaginable pain, maybe you are too. In this situation a rapid solution is needed to get your husband back.

Many people who split, just don’t realise that you can easily get back together. If you believe the marriage or partnership is really over, you might be surprised. There are plenty of systems and methods to help you turn the situation around.

I said the split had made me grow up & see sense for once. Behind the message though, my aim was to get him to return my call. I was fairly taken aback when he returned my call within 24 hours.

That’s the first step taken care of, on to step two. I would attempt to get him to go out with me for coffee. We had a coffee or three and he was feeling quite comfortable.

I wanted him to take the next step of a meal together. He moved from coffee to a restaurant meal pretty smoothly. I think asking him on the phone to go for a meal was pushing it a bit too far.

I’m sure you are starting to get the idea here. Coax him into comfortable small steps. Every little step should not be a stretch as he’s feeling at ease by now. Then it’s moving him on to the next step, or level.

I used a number of these steps in my system to get my husband back. You may well achieve your goal in a lesser number of steps as your plan may differ. What’s very important though is the system itself, and following each & every step.

My plan took just under two months to reunite us both. The system told me exactly what to do and I rarely wavered. As far as I’m concerned, it was money well spent as it did indeed get him back.

Wind powered systems generate electricity that is garnered from the wind. Low Back Segmental Stiffness

When we have our first episode of low back pain our back is rarely stiff unless we are just like that, having a tendency towards stiffness. Mostly our back moves like the well designed machine it is. The discs separate the vertebrae and allow movement to occur, with thicker discs in areas of greater movement. The facet joints control and limit movement of the segments and prevent abnormal displacement of the spine under the shearing loads it must cope with. The muscles are all in good condition and working in the most functional patterns. Until, at least, an episode of back pain occurs and it all changes.

An acute episode of low back pain inhibits the core stabilising muscles from working well and can cause wasting of them with time. Segmental loss of stability control can make the occurrence of further low back pain episodes at the same level more likely. As time and injuries change the spine, degenerative changes can occur in the facet joints and discs, leading to segmental stiffness and chronic back pain. The force of gravity pushes fluid from the discs by compression and is opposed by a chemical absorption of fluid which is more powerful in lying.

If over time the compressive force gets the upper hand, the disc loses some of its hydration and eventually narrows. Narrowing can be seen on x-ray but the disc can start to become troublesome before it is changed enough to show up on the x-ray. In the spine two vertebrae and the intervening disc are known as a segment and it is the segments with altered discs which become stiff, preventing normal movement and forcing anatomical structures to take abnormal loads in abnormal positions. The vertebra above a stiff segment is unable to participate in normal movement and this stiffness can be felt by a physiotherapist.

Muscle spasms are a typical reaction to an acute injury and has a protective function, stopping the damaged segment from moving while it is so inflamed and thereby giving it some freedom to heal. As the pain settles and the injury heals the back spasms should gradually settle and allow normal movement to be restored. Unfortunately this does not always happen, with some muscles remaining over protective and eventually forming a contracture, an abnormally shortened tissue structure which maintains an abnormal joint position.

Segmental stiffness can also be contributed to by sitting too much with its increased spinal compression forcing fluid from the discs. Avoiding flexion for many of us has led to a loss of this useful and disc-maintaining movement which increases fluid throughput to the discs and keeps them healthy. Other contributors are maintaining abnormal postures and weakness of the abdominal muscle group.

Having a series of acute episodes of lumbago can predispose to developing a segmental stiffness problem, often with the stiff or abnormally moving segments of the spine having been present for a long period before they start to give pain symptoms. Actions which make this syndrome worse will tend to hold the spine in flexion for long periods or at end ranges, such as sitting for extended times and bending forwards repeatedly, actions which push joints further than their limits of comfort. The spinal facet joints develop an extension dysfunction and the spinal segment can become adaptively shortened, compromising its movement ability. My own lumbar spine has some of these back problems and limits my ability to do repeated lifting or bent over work.

However, I have been significantly improved by following Sarah Key’s method of back care, popularised in her book Sarah Key’s Back Sufferers Bible. While it is hard to agree with all the assertions she states in her book (as she herself admits), there is no doubt she has some very good ideas on how to practically manage low back pain. She describes the chronically stiff segmental back along with several other back pain syndromes and prescribes an exercise and management regime for treating them. The regime is not difficult but has very good results, particularly in my case where I felt I was stuck with my lower back pain and now realise this may not be the case.

Encinitas is the quintessential Southern California beach town. Business people and surfers alike are lined up at Juanita’s Taco Shop for lunch. The lovely suites at Ann’s Inn At Moonlight Beach are decorated like the rooms you’d find in a French Country Inn. Each suite has a private bath and refrigerator. What makes Ann’s Inn really special is that she bakes her guests delicious home-made, warm-from-the-oven cakes and pastries along with their breakfasts every morning.

Many guests at the inn start their day with a walk along the Pacific Ocean. From the inn you can walk for miles in either direction at sunrise and then return to the inn for a delicious home-made breakfast. Swami’s Beach was made famous by The Beach Boys in 1963 and is only a short walk along the sandy beach from the Inn.

If you stay at Ann’s Inn, you will awaken in the morning to the sounds of the of her meditative waterfall. You can drift back to sleep take a walk or jog along Moonlight Beach as Encinitas awakens.

After their early morning activities, guests return to the Inn and relax with a cup of fresh, hot Starbucks coffee and the morning newspaper in Ann’s breakfast sunroom, or enjoy their breakfast outside in the sunshine next to her soothing waterfall.

In the evenings, guests enjoy romantic moonlit walks on the beach. Others prefer to relax on the front porch of the Inn with a glass of wine while they enjoy the twilight over the ocean. When guests are ready for bed they can snuggle down under fine cotton linens and down-filled pillows and let the soothing songs of the waterfall and distant surf lull them to sleep.
